It is involved in gene expression, the nuclear receptor transcription pathway, development endothelin-1/EDNRA signalling and the prolactin signalling pathway. This protein falls under the family of oestrogen receptors. It binds oestrogens and activates expression of reporter genes containing oestrogen response elements in an oestrogen-dependent manner. Oestrogen is also responsible for the growth and maintenance of the skeleton and the normal function of the cardiovascular and nervous systems.
